He was born as Lester Beasley but went by the name of Chauncey L. Hamilton since he was
about five years old after his mother married Ernest Hamilton. His Mother filed an
affidavit of the name change with the state of California in 1941. At that time, Chauncey
was a 29 year old married man with two children. It makes sense to believe that his mother
may have wanted there to be an easy trail for family research, since she did this after
long after Chauncey was a leagal adult, and had already used the Hamilton name on all
official documents (social security card, draft papers, marriage license, etc). She also
filed her own birth certificate in 1942, when she was 58 years old.
Chauncey and Chester were twins. Chauncey being born first.
